I'm working my way along a similar path as well. This year I realized that most of my efforts towards the ideal of community revolved around being somebody I'm not and wearing myself out trying to please people. It was resulting in a lot of relational burnout. At some point, I just... stopped. In the breathing room I'm feeling my way into being who God has designed me to be and offering what I have to offer, nothing more. It's relieving to be more honest. I do hope it ultimately results in what you call true relationships, where people know me and love me for who I actually am and I can do the same in reverse. But... it'll probably take a while. There's a lot to figure out and lots of room to grow. In the meantime I have the instinct to withdraw, which means it feels like I'm going backwards and not forwards towards that ideal of community I still hold. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway. I get it. I trust we're both held in grace and will be moving into the women or trees we have always been meant to be.
